Overview
The Import sub-link below the Campaigns tab allows you to upload a file to create, edit or delete multiple campaigns, ad groups, keywords and ads at once.* We also provide you with a downloadable template file in which to insert your selected campaign information. You can download the template in XML format in an Excel 2003 spreadsheet or you may download the template in CSV format. After you complete the template file, you can upload the information into your account.
Benefits
- Save time editing the bids, URLs, ad text, and settings for your campaigns.
- Create entirely new campaigns from a file that you upload.
- Import your campaign information to a spreadsheet for reference and archival purposes. With the spreadsheet, you can:
- Update only the columns you select by choosing ‘update: yes’ or ‘update: no’ options from the top row.
- Select column options from cell dropdowns for columns with specific entry options (this feature is only available in the .XML format).
- View tool-tips displaying help text beside each cell in the header row with descriptions of the cell and possible value entries (this feature is only available in the .XML format).
- View an ‘in-sheet’ error message if your spreadsheet cannot be validated and requires change (this feature is only available in the .XML format).
How It Works
To import your new campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords:
- Log into your account.
- In the Campaigns tab, click on the Import sub-link.*
- In the Import Campaigns page, click on the XML link or the CSV link to download a new template file. The template file is a spreadsheet that you use to record your campaigns, ad groups, keywords and ad information. For more information on the spreadsheet, please click here.
- After you complete the template file, save and optionally compress the file on your computer.
- In the Import Campaigns page, click the Browse button and select your template file and click Open.
- Enter the name for your upload in the Import Name field and click Upload. Please note that if there are any errors in your template file, a comment file containing the comments will be available in the Import History tab.
Large Downloads
Some programs supporting CSV formats may limit the amount of rows in your spreadsheet. If you have a large Yahoo! Search Marketing account, your template file may exceed this limit. In order to view your full account download you can:
- use the latest import template in .XML format for Microsoft 2003 so the additional campaign information for each campaign past Microsoft Excel 2003’s 65,536 row limitation is automatically displayed onto multiple tabs at the bottom of your spreadsheet.
- use a third party text editor, such as TextPad®, to view additional rows if you are using an older import template (see note below) or downloading your campaigns in .CSV format.
Instructions for placing an oversized bulksheet file onto multiple tabs are provided below.
Note: You must have Textpad®, a third-party text editor, installed to complete the process below. For more information and to download this program, visit http://www.textpad.com/download/index.html.
To place an oversized download file onto multiple tabs in your spreadsheet program:
- Open a blank workbook.
- Download the campaign(s) of your choice by clicking the “Download Campaign” button and saving the file(s) to your desktop.
- Unzip/extract the saved file(s) to your desktop.
- Right click the unzipped spreadsheet file and select “Textpad”.
- Wait for the file to open up in Textpad® completely.
- Press Ctrl+Q, L on your keyboard to turn on the line number feature in Textpad®.
- Starting from the top of the file, scroll all the way down until you reach Row 50,000.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Home on your keyboard to select the first 50,000 rows of the file.
- Press Ctrl+X to cut the rows, then paste them in the first tab of the blank workbook.
- Repeat Steps 7 to 9 as needed, pasting no more than 50,000 rows on a new tab each time.
- Save the file with a new name.
See the Import Campaign Spreadsheet article for additional explanation of each column in the template file.
*The Import sub-link will only appear if the Import Campaign feature is supported by your account.
Note: Older template files may still be used to import your campaign data; howvever, newer template features and data columns will not display in older templates.
