Review Campaign Tune-up Proposal

The Review Campaign Tune-up Proposal page summarizes the findings generated by our analysis of your campaign. From here, you can decide whether or not to update your campaign settings with the proposed changes.

Opening the Proposal

After you receive notification that tune-up has finished, you can open the tune-up proposal for review before deciding whether or not to apply it to your campaign. This is the final step in the campaign tune-up workflow.

To view the tune-up proposal

Do one of the following after receiving the alert that tune-up has finished:

  • In the alert text, click the Evaluate Your Proposal link.

  • Open the Campaign details page, and click View Tune-up Proposal.

Evaluating the Proposal

The tune-up summary box (upper right of page) contains general information about when the tune-up ran and the tune-up guidelines you specified prior to running tune-up. Use the following information to help you decide whether or not you want to apply the changes presented in this proposal to your campaign.

Proposed Daily Spending Limit

To help improve spend efficiency, tune-up calculates a new proposed daily spending limit based on the optimized keyword bid and match type combinations. If your campaign uses Content Match, the proposed daily spending limit takes into account your campaign’s spend rate for Content Match in the last 30 days. You can retain the proposed value, or change it according to your requirements.

Performance: Last 30 Days vs. Estimates after Tune-up

The bar graphs provide a visual comparison of your campaign’s performance for up to two performance metrics (for example, clicks and impressions). If you’ve implemented data collection tags in your web site and turned on analytics for your account, you can also compare conversions and revenue metrics. The bars represent performance for the past 30 days and estimates for the next 30 days based on the optimized keyword bid and match type combinations in the proposal.

Campaign Performance Comparison

This table provides a side-by-side numerical comparison of performance metrics for the past 30 days and estimates for the next 30 days. Consult the rightmost arrows to see whether numbers have increased or decreased with the proposed changes to your campaign

Note: The metrics you see in this table can vary. To view assists, conversions, revenue, cost per acquisition, and return on ad spend, you must implement data collection tags. (See Analytics Settings to learn how.)

Proposed Changes and Keyword Estimates Tabs

The tables at the bottom of the page summarize all of the proposed changes keyword by keyword. There, you can find the proposed bid and match type for each keyword together with current values. The Keyword Estimates tab contains a second table with performance estimates for the next 30 days. The metrics you see depend on whether you’ve implemented data collection tags as described above for the Campaign Performance Comparison table.

Note: If after starting tune-up you moved a keyword to another campaign or removed it from the campaign, you will not see it in these summary tables. As a rule of thumb, we recommend against making those sorts of changes until after you complete tune-up and decide whether or not to accept the proposal.

Changing the Daily Spending Limit

Tune-up proposes a daily spending limit that it thinks will most efficiently manage your ad spend and help maintain peak ROI. You can change this value, but do so with care. By lowering the daily spending limit, you could miss out on ad serving opportunities due to insufficient funds for the day.

To set a custom value for the daily spending limit

In the Proposed Daily Spending Limit field, type in a new amount.

Tip: The daily spending limit isn’t the only protection against overspending. Optimizing keyword bids can be another effective way to manage your campaign expenditures.

Comparing Keyword Actuals and Estimates

You can compare historical and estimated keyword performance either as a group or by spot-checking individual keywords.

To examine performance for groups of keywords

  • Click between the Proposed Changes tab and the Keyword Estimates tab.

  • If you want to see more keywords, use the controls below the table to page through them or expand the number of lines you see on a page.

To spot-check performance for a single keyword

In the keyword list, click the name of the keyword you want to investigate. This pops up a side-by-side comparison of performance for the last 30 days and estimates for the next 30 days based on the optimized bid and match type combination.

Viewing Campaign Settings

You can browse general information about your campaign, like current marketing tactics, the default match type, schedule, geo-targeting, and the number of ad groups, ads, and keywords.

To view campaign settings

In the tune-up summary box (upper right), click View Campaign Settings.

Accepting or Rejecting the Proposal

Once you’ve thoroughly reviewed the proposal, choose whether or not to apply the proposed changes to your campaign.

To apply the proposed changes

  1. Click Accept.

  2. In the confirmation popup, before you apply the changes, you can save your current campaign settings if you didn’t do so before. Click Download Campaign. This opens your standard browser download dialog box. Complete the file download to a location on your machine. If needed later on, you can revert to your original campaign settings by importing this file.

  3. When you’re ready to apply the proposed changes, click Apply.

Tune-up updates your campaign in the background, so you can continue activities on other campaigns. When the update finishes, you’ll be notified. After that, you can refine your campaign’s performance further—for example, if you feel it’s needed, define a custom bid limit for a specific keyword.

To ignore the proposed changes

Click Reject to delete the proposal.

Viewing Details about the Campaign Update

If tune-up cannot apply a proposed keyword change while updating your campaign (for example, you deleted the keyword after initiating the tune-up process), tune-up will generate a summary with the number of changes it could not make.

To view the update summary

After receiving notification that the update has finished, click the View Job Details link in the alert text.
